Care & Share

I've always told everyone else out there that people in my uni are really nice and as far from typical selfish students as you can get but something happened today that really disappointed me. Let's hope that Mr Selfish is just ONE blacksheep.

I walked into a group discussion early in the morning and overheard something about going to school early tomorrow morning...

Me: Ehz? Coming early tomorrow? For what? Lectures' at 2.45pm ah? Something going on in the morning?

Mr Selfish: Nothing.

Miss Nice: Q&A by Dr S lah...

Me: Oh... extra ah?

Mr Selfish: But he say only the 3 groups.

Me: I see...

Conversation 'bout the Q&A session continues...

Miss A: (walks in) Huh? What's happening?

Mr Selfish: Nothing.

---
Psst, Mr S, people dun wanna steal your special session leh.. no need to be so worried okiez? :) We ask 'cos we kaypoh wanna know what's the topic of conversation lah. If there are extra revision sessions that you arranged that I can't go for, I won't barge in. If there are extra sessions that you arranged for, I might not go 'cos I might not wanna. Grow up. Bah.
And He Strikes Again...
Third post about the same guy, some people might just think I've got a crush on him. Haha, well, just posting 'cos his lectures are very very funny.

Him: When I was in first year, I used to play, I never read like my friends did.

Him: I take life easy but the one thing is... *shakes head in the very Indian way*.. when I see a diagram, I get it... when I see a diagram.. I..........

Us: Get it. *LOL*

Him: And during the exam, I see "describe" I draw. That gets me 60%, 40% to pass, I get 60% so I....

Us: Pass. *LOL*

----

He's a great lecturer... the bitch/bastard who betrayed him should burn in hell. Pardon the lack of asterisks in my words, I dun like seeing asterisks in the middle of my words.

You Know Something's Wrong When...

1. Everyone in your apt is bright awake at 2.15am, no signs of going to sleep (and no, we're not staying up for Euro 2004).

2. Some of you do household chores at midnight.

3. Someone cooks pasta at 1 am.

4. You guys are blasting music well past midnight, not at all worried 'bout security guards appearing.

5. The dining table is covered with paper and books.

IMU Song
Changed the title... heehee

How many IMU students out there know the IMU song? Oh, even better, KNOW OF the IMU song. I've known about its existance since orientation last year but have never heard it till a short while ago and OMG. Let's just say that my secondary school song sounded better.

This song reminds me of advertisements for babys' milk powder or cod liver oil, you know, the likes lah. Ermz... a little too "kiddy" for my taste. Thank goodness we don't sing it. Sheesh.

Sexy Eyes

A little mosquito was buzzing around with sexy eyes one day... :P

Dos & Don'ts During PBL Sessions -- YP's version
I didn't have enough sleep the day before and went for my previous PBL 2 session in a grouchy and super sensitive mood, so here's a list of Dos & Don'ts for PBLs...

Do LISTEN to your peers during discussions.

Do attempt to prepare notes for your peers if you're presenting.

Do understand what you are presenting before you even present.

Do speak in a language that people can understand. ie. Don't go on and on in jargon and don't go on and on in your terrible english. You've got problems with language, go do something about it.

Don't announce to the group (while the facci is still there) that you think they have not done their jobs.

Don't tell your peer(s) anything remotely like "you're stupid" if they ask questions during your presentation, especially when you're the one who is wrong.

Don't call your facci by his full name because in our society, IT IS RUDE.

Don't just read from the recommended text, because I CAN DO THAT ON MY OWN and don't need you to present then... waste my time.

Btw, I like my PBL group. Most of the people, anyway... :)

Words Of Wisdom From A Friend

"If he has no gun and Osama has a gun and I have a gun with 2 bullets, I'll shoot him twice"
- Rajinder
What made an LT-full of M203-ians LOL

A: So if the conus artery supplies the infundibulum, what supplies the vestibule?

P: If I look at this side of the LT, doesn't mean I'm not talking to the other side of the LT.

LT: *LOL*

---

B: But N says that it's not labelled this way...

P: Then N is wrong, G's cannot be wrong. It's like the bible, the koran, you cannot question it.

P: Who is N? He is only an artist. He make very good drawings. N is 95% correct. G's has only one mistake... one small mistake only... Not significant mistake...G's is 100% correct.

LT: *LOL*

---

P: Don't bother about the S's wrong answers, in the test, the questions, no disputes. Because I don't like disputes.

Darling readers, you won't understand what I'm talking about unless you were sitting in the auditorium somewhere between 5.15pm and 5.45pm on 23rd June 2004.

Not-So-Smart Medical Student

You know, people always have this stereotypical view about Medical Students being smart, intelligent individuals? And I have always said that it isn't true? Well, here's an incident to prove myself.

At a clinic somewhere in KL on a hazy morning, 3 medical students were in the waiting area where they approached a malay lady, wearing tudung...

Med Students A, B & C: Good morning, we're first year medical students from IMU... blah blah blah...

Patient: blah blah blah... my name is blah blah blah (giving a very common malay name)..blah blah blah

After a series of questions...

A: So, are you a muslim?

B & C: *faint*

Patient: (sounded very pissed off) I'm wearing a tudung and my name is XYZ binti ABC, of course I'm a muslim.

A: Oh... *nod nod*

And the patient refused to answer any other questions from then on. Can't blame her, I guess. I don't like talking to not-so-smart people either.

Med students, smart? You think? For more info, please go to Adeline's blog...

Some Stuff I Don't Like

1. Waking up a to hazy day.

2. Knowing that a friend isn't happy.

3. Seeing an unhappy person first thing in the morning.

4. Waking up late.

5. Knowing that someone editted something I did without telling me.

Will bitch about one of these to whoever I see later this afternoon. Bah.

It's what I gathered...

This was a bit of what happened in a hilarious lecture on coronary circulation today...

D (in his super thick accent): The anteriour interventricular artery is the one most frequently affected in MI. Do you know why?

Us: Noooo...

D: Because during diastole...blah blah blah

Us: (scribble scribble like mad)

D: This is not what the books say, this is what I gathered. I don't know whether it's right.

Us: (Totally pengz)

D: But I think it's right

Us: (Still pengz)

Most of us love this guy, he is absolutely hilarious!!!
Today

Had a super short PBL and went to collect results for summative II after that. :) Everything so good so far...

Then I sent out and sms and got a reply and now I'm kinda worried.

Get well soon ya...

Added after CSU
I had to take the history of a patient with MI...Conclusion after the session, my history taking skills have gone from bad to worse, super rusty (not that I'm good to begin with) today and I sounded like a robot. Bah.. not good, not good at all.

Community Clinic Visit

So, a few of my batchmates blogged about their clinic visits and I guess being the i-dun-wanna-be-left-out me, I'll do the same. :)

I've never been to a government hospital as a patient and have never been in a Klinik Kesihatan (Community Clinic) my whole life, so yeah, this was a whole new experience. Lots to see, but nothing to do... so it was hours of looking. The nurses and doctors were very nice to this bunch of pesky students, I think. Considering we had loads of question and seemed always to be in the way, no matter how hard we pasted ourselves against the walls. Hmm...

I guess the only thing worth blogging about was what happened in the treatment room. Patients were sent there to have their blood sample taken and my oh my... weren't the kids scared. They cried the moment they saw the needles. Eekz! HP and I had to hold down a little boy and I swear after his ordeal, he looked at me with 2 big eyes as if to say "You're EVIL" *gulp* He was staring and staring at me from outside the room for quite some time!!! A claims that the little boy will have nightmares of me that night, well... I hope not.

Crazy Day Ahead

Why am I posting again??? (Yeah, a bit too many posts for one day eh?) 'Cos I don't think I'll be posting tomorrow or even the day after. I (and some others) will be going for our community clinic visit tomorrow. Yours truly is going to a certain somewhere which I'll call "DK". (Yesh, those who know will know where I mean lah) No idea what it's like. Seniors say that it's boring, batchmates who went say that it was pretty fun. Everyone there is supposedly very nice and friendly except for a certain someone. But I guess I'll see tomorrow lah.

All I know is that I have to get down to the LRT station at 7 in the morning so that we can meet at the other LRT station at 8.15. Wei... 7 in the morning... means I'll be up at 6.15. YIKES!!! Sigh. Long day tomorrow... (as if today wasn't long enough).
A Crazy Day

1. Extra CSU. Took us a long time to call the Dr and ended up dragging the whole session till after 10.20am

2. Re-scheduled PBL frm 8.30am to 10.00am but from no. 1, you'll know that I got to PBL late (with half the PBL group) 'cos I was stuck in CSU. Very surprised that Dr L didn't get pissed off with us and walked off earlier on. (hey, we were about half an hour late!)

3. Kena bullied by that dumb A during PBL. HRMPH. But PBL today was pretty fun, everyone was in a crazy mood. :P

4. Debated on "This house would include interviews in admission process to critical courses in public universities." Don't ask me why this topic, was supposed to do it last week but due to unforseen circumstances, we didn't get to do it. Anyway, everyone was late, I was on the side I didn't really wanna be on. And I sucked lah. I know it isn't anything new buden (wif a single d) yea.. I'm a terrible debater.

5. Went for lecture... and promptly fell asleep.

Linked Xiao_zhai, better known as Xiao or Big Xiao by the M203-ians
I paid car car a visit

After doing the stuff I was home to do on Sunday morning, mom brought me to pay my car a visit. Why a "visit"? Why isn't it HOME? Well... originally, I was supposed to get pa's number plate remember? Budden, lots of problems so I won't be getting it anymore. Maybe my next car lah (that'll be in many years' time, I think).

So, we travelled all the way from Kulai to JB and back up to Tampoi to have a look at the car. It's like visiting a friend in prison, he can't come out!!! :(

Yeah, my car's ready and waiting for the paperwork to be done before it can go home. Hai... Maybe my next trip home, it'll be waiting for me??? :)

Taboos

I was in morals class on Thursday, sitting through a presentation on sexuality when someone commented that "hey, why is it that they use asterisks everytime they want to use the word fuck or penis?" And that set me thinking, why are words like these considered offensive or rather, taboo. I mean, in the most literal sense, fuck means to have sexual intercourse with while penis refers to an anatomical part of the male body. So... why is it wrong to use these words? Yes, there's no denying that society has been conditioned to view certain words as taboo and my question is... WHY?

Personally, I feel that these words, if used in the proper context is alright. Take for example, "fuck" does not always have to be used as a swear word right? (or does it?)

Yeah, as usual, YP is thinking a little too much about things. Haiz...

Orientation M2/04

Just picked out the committee slightly more than an hour ago. :) I'm not going to reveal anything much here.. just wanna say...

To every single member of the Orientation M2/04 Committee, ALL THE BEST!!! Let's do this thing...
My Mama Bought Me A Car

I know I know, everyone around me have heard of this. But hey, I'm super happy, super excited ah.. :) And.. this is my blog, so er.. if I gonna repeat what I've been telling everyone around me, it's my right, right???

Yeah, so... MAMA BOUGHT ME A CAR It's a silver metallic Hyundai Getz.. 1.6, I think. :) Yay!!! I gonna have my own car soon!!! The number plate is real nice too! (It's Papa's old number plate.) I'll post a pic of it (the car) when I get to see it.

Not gonna have the car in KL all that soon though, but yeah, one fine day it'll be in KL. *grinz*

Some stuff to look at... although a little late

The bits in black italics are from an article in NST. If you're interested in the whole article, it can be found here.

The Government also decided to hire more lecturers from Commonwealth countries to maintain the ideal teacher-student ratio of 1:6. One must appreciate the significance of the Government's swift intervention when one considers the shortage of doctors in government clinics and hospitals.

Why doesn't the government realise that to solve the problem of shortage of doctors, one easy method is to improve working conditions of doctors in government clinics and hospitals? Increasing the number of lecturers, hence the number of medical students, does not solve the problem!!! In time to come, new-doctors-turned-experienced-doctors will still leave for the private sector. Many medical students say that they are not in it for the money, but face it, in time to come, one will be attracted by higher income and of course, much better working conditions right?

Nevertheless, at the back of one's mind lies some questions. Friends, including a few doctors, have raised these questions: Do these students know what they are in for? Are they interested? Was there pressure from parents and relatives? There are medical students who feel faint at the sight of blood, and yet they want to be doctors.

I guess its important to have the correct reasons or at least develop the correct reasons in time to come. Personally, I have my reasons for wanting to do medicine and well, I pray that these reasons are good enough ones that'll keep me motivated enough to graduate and to become a good dr.

"Having also been a university lecturer for almost four years, I've seen students regretting studying medicine even after reaching their final year. If you study hard enough, anyone can pass the medical course. "But to work as a doctor is different. A classmate left to study engineering after the first year. Another junior of mine left to study law after passing the first year. "When I worked in England, there were students sent to do a week's attachment in a busy hospital after applying to study medicine. "One of two students who followed me withdrew after seeing what life is like for a doctor. If you give all these aspiring 128 doctors a one-week stint in a busy government hospital, and then follow one of the medical officers on their rounds, I would not be surprised if you get more than a few withdrawals.

No amount of warning will prepare a student for what's to come their way, I think. Yupz, maybe showing people what they are getting themselves into will be a good idea. But once again, I believe that if you have good reasons for choosing to the do course (medicine or otherwise), you'll persevere.. yes?

How You Know Students Like The Lecturer

1. He comes in for a lecture after more than 3 months and the batch starts applauding.

2. Words on his notes slant at different angles, diagrams are not clear but we think it's great notes anyway.

3. Rumours about his position in jeopardy appear and people start signing petitions.

4. Says strange things in lectures but people tolerate him anyway.

5. The only lecture after lunch with more than 3 quarter of the class awake.

Heehee, the IMU pple might know who I'm talking about right? :P Just thought it was kinda funny the way almost everyone likes his lectures.

Teenagers Reach Out Via Weblogs

Got this from Grace who saw it here.

He also found that not only did teenage bloggers write a lot more than would be expected, they were also using the blogs as a form of "self-therapy".

"Blogs are an area for self expression. It gives them a space to be candid or personal where they don't usually have.

I wouldn't say that it blogging gives me a space to be candid or personal where I don't usually have. My friends will know that I'm crazy anywhere. :P But yeah, it is a place for self expression and I appreciate this. I don't know if I ever mentioned this in my blog but when I'm really really upset (including the times when I'm having PMS) I'll blog. My posts at that time doesn't have to be related to why I'm upset, it's just nice knowing that there's somewhere where I can yak and yak and yak and no one will tell me to shuddup.

Harry Potter

I watched the movie with 21 other friends yesterday at Sunway Pyramid. Heh heh. Why? 'Cos it was day the movie opened and we happen to have no lectures yesterday. So, a big big group of us went for the movie and ended up at Murni (SS2) for a mamak session.

First, the movie... I wouldn't say it's a bad movie but it's not a terribly good one either. Don't go with very high expectations and you'll be fine. Unlike the previous 2 Harry Potter movies, this one doesn't quite follow the book closely. The general idea is there but Harry Potter fans will definitly miss the finer details we love so much. By the way, BUCKBEAK IS SO CUTE. :P (Yeah, I've got a strange definition of cute-ness, btw).

Now the AFTER movie... we went to Murni at SS2 for dinner+supper, er.. dinper? Tried to Mango Special (Grace's recommendation) and Cheese Naan. The Mango Special was G-R-E-A-T!!! So er.. mango-ish!!! Yummy. What I really really loved about it, however, was the big jug they put it in and when you dig into it, you'll find all kinda fruits. MmmmMmm...
First Post In June

Wow, take a peek at the dates... this is the 4th day since my previous post!!! Ok, I'm getting a little lazy and life is getting a little boring but still as busy as before.

As you'll probably know from my previous post, I started on CVS this week. My first system course. I guess everything's pretty OK, in fact, I'm kinda enjoying it... it's just the shitty timetable. 2.45 to 6.15 kinda lectures is really not my cup of tea. Well, too bad lah.

Just came from CSU. Not CVS's CSU though, just general physical examination. 2nd CSU on this topic, hee, in fact, I realised I didn't blog about my 1st one. Pretty interesting, I think. :) Heng ah... we didn't get scolded today. Could see that Dr A was kinda pissed off with us not knowing our stuff and our dumb questions. Thank goodness he realised that we're silly semester 2s and let us off. *phew* Super long session today though, almost 3 hours. Learnt a lot a lot.

I guess today's a pretty good day.
